Meeting Date: September 17, 2020
A regular meeting of the American Legion Riders was held at the American Legion Post 36,
Jersey Shore, PA on September 17, 2020. The meeting convened at 7:00pm with the Pledge of
Allegiance and roll call of officers, with 6 officers and 11 members in attendance.

Treasurer’s Report:
Report read, the Kohl’s check was voided so Cherrish paid for the card
herself. Motion made to pay Cherrish 1st - Rose, 2nd - Della

Membership Report: Membership 48 members

Old Business:
The Lycoming County Veterans parade will be Nov 7. It is requested that no more
than 15 people attend from our group. We are not allowed to pass out candy nor anything else.
There will be no review stand, ribbons or prizes this year and no memorial service after the
parade. You must wear a mask if you cannot social distance. We need to know who all will be
going, to be determined at October meeting. We will meet at McCall middle school at 9:30am.
Those going will meet in Jersey Shore at 8:30am with the parade starting at 10. Further
discussion at October meeting.
The thank-you card was sent to the Axillary for the donation for the Fallen Soldier Ride.
The gift card made it to the family with great appreciation, Fungi notified the school of the help
needed for the daughter.
Bob loves his new chair.
New Business:
The owner of the Oval Country Store (Rich) donated $100 to the H&H and $50
to the Golf fundraiser. The Lycoming County Veterans Parade will be in Montoursville on
November 7. We will discuss this at the next two meetings.
Committee Reports
Fundraising:
Last year we spent $1500 on the gun raffle. This year we decided on the popular
rifle of the year, an AR, and a handgun. Steve F. will talk to Mike and see what the prices would
be. Fungi motioned to allow $2,000. Steve will work on getting the best deal possible and try to
stay under that amount. We will again purchase 2000 tickets. DL will talk to Tobi Welker about
sponsoring the tickets. The drawing will be at the Fallen Soldier Ride. We are looking at dates
for the Golf next year, possibly a Saturday at the beginning to middle of August, and a Sunday
later in August for the Heroes and Horses ride.
Activities:
For the Christmas dinner we are looking at possibly the Saturday after New Year’s.
We will discuss further at future meeting.
Scholarship:
None
Merchandise:
The t-shirts will be tabled until next meeting. We have two names of possible
sources to look into: Tony Kopp of Keystone Advertising at 800-380-3213 or 570-546-3215 and
Josh Porter at 570-484-1094.
Public Relations:
None
Fun Rides:
There will be a ride Saturday September 19 going to Maryland leaving at 9am from
the Sheetz on Maynard St. Plan for 13 hours. Then Sunday, September 20 ride to Morris for
drinks and Cedar Run for ice cream along with some other stops.
October 10 Tobi’s daughter, Abby, would like a birthday party support for a little boy who loves
motorcycles. We will sing happy birthday and rev our motors, meet at the Legion at 4:30pm then
end at the DQ in Avis.
Veteran in Need:
Veteran, Sandra Watkins, passed away two years ago She served from October
1964 until April 1966. Her husband, also a veteran, passed away many years ago. They had no
children and her brother is attempting to bury their remains. She had no life insurance and her
brother paid $3655 of his own money for the cremation services. The total bill was $1398, and he
has acquired all but $448. Motion made to pay the remainder of the bill 1st - Steve F, 2nd - Steve W
The money will be paid to the Jersey Shore Cemetery.

A recap of the Special Meeting last week, the chair we were going to purchase was no longer
available. The officers made a decision to get one from Beiter’s and have it delivered on his
birthday tomorrow. Don’t forget about breakfast to celebrate his birthday tomorrow at the Shore
Diner at 7am.
Paul Manning is looking for clothing appropriate for this time of year as well as school supplies.
Fungi stated that the school will provide supplies to children who need them and he will get the
message to the school so they can help her with that. A motion was made to purchase a Kohl’s
gift card by Steve Fisher in the amount of $500, 2

by Larry Fungi. Cherrish will purchase the
card tomorrow and Steve and Rose will deliver it Saturday since they will be in there area where
he lives.
A reminder was made by Fungi about the 9/11 fun ride. We will be doing the reverse route of the
normal 9/11 ride as our own group. Meet at the legion for KSU at 5:30
Hughesville funeral home would like an escort for a service member tomorrow. Willi will depart
the JS Legion at 11:30am for anyone who would like to go with him.

Vickie VanOrder is looking for assistance for Paige Hill who is the granddaughter of
Wilson Spots. Vicki is going to college and is seeking some money to help her with the cost.
After discussion, Lisa motioned to give $1,000 which was 2

by Steve. Motion carried and
donation was made. Vicki Hancock was also present. She got the approval to have the horses
lead the ride out Seminary St to Main St, then left on Main St as far as Sweitzers where they will
exit the road and the ride will go from there. Heroes and Horses will provide sides and dessert.
We will have burgers and dogs. Steve Willits will do the cooking on his event grill.
Membership Report:
We have one person apply for membership this month: Gerald Bates. He is
a member of Lock Haven SAL. Lisa motioned to accept him as a new member, 2

Old Business
The parade that was to be July 23 was cancelled. The Heroes and Horses ride will
be this weekend meeting at the Legion at 8:30 am for set up with registration set for 9:30 to
11:30. The route will be to leave the legion to 220, then 64 to 144 to Pleasant Gap Legion, then
144 to 45 to 455 to 192 to 880 Middle Rd to 44S to 654 to Nippenose Tavern then back to JS
Legion. Millheim Legion is closed so that will not be a stop. Participants will have to make an
extra roll at another stop. The auxiliary will be selling breakfast that morning. After ride meal
will be around 3:30. We will have 3 boxes each of dogs and burgers. Della will get the buns.

Rose. They will be at Heywoods at 7:30am.
New Business:
The owner of the Oval Country Store (Rich) donated $100 to the H&H and $50

The Fallen Soldier raffle went well. We would like to get started on the raffle for
next year in October allowing us more time to sell tickets. We will discuss this at the September
meeting to have tickets printed and ready in October.

Fungi will prepare a ride on 9/11 to depart the Legion at 5:30pm.

Guests:
Thelma Hunter from Veteran’s Multi-Service Center in Lock Haven. She discussed their
mission to assist homeless veterans in helping them to find housing and assisting in basic
furniture for them. This is a resource who may be in touch with us when needed. Second guest
was Vicki Hancock from Heroes and Horses and guest who talked about their program and how
it helps veterans. Also present were two potential new members, Jeremy and Jamie Evans.
Membership Report:
Membership stands at 47 members.
Old Business
The parade will be July 23 with a new route from the regular being in place. We
will meet at the legion between 3-3:30 to prepare and line up at 5:15 on Bastress Street to go
down Locust to Thompkins St to the field. Glenn will have his trike on the trailer along with
Jeff’s and Shawn’s bikes. We will be using Neil’s truck and Jeff’s trailer.
The Fallen Soldier ride will be July 26 going from Jersey Shore Legion to Muncy Legion. They
will be providing us with baked beans and another surprise side dish. We will pay for their
expenses. Bill Engle is trying to throw the entertainment together since the other two options
backed out. A grill will be provided. Della will be getting the buns.
New Business:
Joe Bailey has stepped down from the position of Chaplain. Steve Smeltzer will
assume the Chaplain position.
Heroes and Horses have 30 veterans registered who they are helping. They are in the process of
moving to a new location in September or October. The ride for the benefit or Heroes and Horses
will be August 23, 2020. The route will be to leave the legion making our way to 64 to Center
Hall Legion, then 144 to 45 to Millheim Legion, then 455 to 192 to Rebersburg to Rauchtown to
Nippenose Tavern then back to JS Legion. Vicki would like to have the horses lead the ride and
will work on necessary arrangements to see if she can do that. There will be a Chinese Auction,
raffle, sides, and dessert.
The Golf Tournament will be August 31. We have 11 teams signed up and would like a couple
more. We have some prizes and still getting more. So far there are 25 hole sponsors where we are
looking to get 36.

raffle off 5 books the day of the Fallen Soldier Ride.

A regular meeting of the American Legion Riders was held at the American Legion Post 36, Jersey Shore, PA, on July 18, 2019 y. The meeting convened at 1900 with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call of officers with 7 officers and 11 members in attendance

 

Secretary’s Report:  The Secretary’s report for the regular meeting from June 20, 2019 was read and approved.  Motion to accept report as read: 1st Joe, 2nd Larry; motion passed unanimously.

 

Guest Presentation: Presentation was made regarding the Heroes and Horses Charity Ride.  H/H staff will man the stops.  Stops are Cross Roads, Wagon Wheel, Mt Top, JSAL. 

ALR will provide hot dogs and burgers.  H/H staff will provide side dishes.  Registration will begin at 0930-1130.  Unstructured ride. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Read and approved.  Motion to accept report as read 1st  Gary, 2nd Steve, passed unanimously.   

Outstanding Bills – Wreaths $134.00 and Della for candy and decorations $55.79

Comities: Fund Raising-first presentation of raffling off a smoker, meat and cash.  Terry will provide prices next meeting. 

 

Activities: Heroes and Horses Ride on the radio over the next couple weeks. 

 

Public Relations: Nothing

 

 

New Business: SVBT would like to do another benefit ride for Caleb, October 19, 2019.   Asked us to take responsibility for the ride again.  Motion to help out with benefit 1st Terry, 2nd Larry.  Passed.

Motion to donate $250.00 to Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and First Responders. 1st Terry 2nd Steve.  Passed. 

New Flag stand for float, Monkey Boy and Wes will take care of that.

 

Special Meeting was held July 28, 2019 to vote on  $2000.00 Loan for Charlie Kline, for the final cost of getting his bathroom handicap accessible.  Passed,

 

                                      

                                      

Correspondence:  Letter from Rebecca Loner of JS.  Husband is a Veteran with cancer.  Home is in need of repair.  Suggestion the family start with the Veterans Administration.  Tabled until next month to receive more info.

A regular meeting of the American Legion Riders was held at the American Legion Post 36, Jersey Shore, PA, on May 16, 2019. The meeting convened at 1900 with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call of officers with 7 officers and 20 members in attendance

 

Secretary’s Report:  The Secretary’s report for the regular meeting from April 18, 2019 was read and approved.  Motion to accept report as read: 1st Nadine, 2nd Gary; motion passed unanimously.

 

Presentation:  Heroes and Horses Video was shown.  Information regarding the video and the program was provided by Vicky Hancock following the video.  Heroes and Horses has 28 clients and functions totally on donations. 

The June 8, 2019 Heroes and Horses Ride was discussed:  Terry has the route planned, Bill has PR through 92.1 radio station. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Read and approved.  Motion to accept report as read 1st  Rose, 2nd Larry, passed unanimously.   There were no outstanding bills. 

 

Membership Report:    56 members. 

 

Old Business:  Fallen Soldier Ride: May 19, 2019, registration begins at 0900 – 1130 hrs.  $10 for dinner only, $10 for riders.  Meal Pulled pork 3 sides and rolls.  Post 36 to provide hot dogs and hamburgers. 

Route will be Valley Inn to Loyalsock Hotel to Hughesville Legion to Muncy Legion.  Safety concerns are listed on the directions. 

Motion to pay Joan $250.00. 1st Steve 2nd Monkey Boy.

No new information on the Purple Heart Ride.

Four Corners Ride-read flyer.  Post 36 ALR donated $500.

Golf- registration at 0800 People needed 3 for registration, 2 for putting contest, 2 for Tee Box purchase and 4 to put out signs.

A regular meeting of the American Legion Riders was held at the American Legion Post 36, Jersey Shore, PA, on January 17, 2019.  The meeting convened at 1900 with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call of officers with 7 officers and 22 members in attendance

 

Secretary’s Report:  The Secretary’s report for the regular meeting from December 20, 2018, was read and approved.  Motion to accept report as read: 1st Joe, 2nd Larry; motion passed unanimously.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Read and approved.  There was an outstanding bill for the Donnie Thompson patches from PAMP for $397.50  Motion to accept report as read 1st Alan 2nd Terry, passed unanimously. Motion to  pay the outstanding bills: 1st Wes, 2nd Alan; motion passes unanimously.

 

Membership Report:  No Membership Report.  Previous 66 members

 

Old Business:  After Christmas party was a success.

Larry donated POW and Marine Corps Flags.

Post and Riders Dues Must be paid.  Post dues must be paid before we can pay the ALR per-capita.

2019 Events: March 3, Bingo, May 19, Fallen Soldier Ride, May 20 Golf Tournament, June 15, Heroes and Horses, August 18 Post 36 Veteran’s Ride.

Bingo: Terry will be Caller, Willie 3 boxes of hot dogs, Jeff  hot dog buns, Pampered Chef Books are out.

 

New Business: Four Corners ride, Homer City May 16-18, 2019 $25 for Rider $25 for Passenger.

 Gun Raffle  Motion to have raffle all guns 1st Larry 2nd Willie passed unanimously, Motion to keep gun raffle tickets at $2 and 10 tickets per book.  1st Alan 2nd Terry.

Meeting Date:  November 28, 2108

 

A regular meeting of the American Legion Riders was held at the American Legion Post 36, Jersey Shore, PA, on November 28, 2018.  The meeting convened at 1900 with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call of officers with 6 officers and 13 members in attendance.  This meeting was held on November 28, 2018 because the regular meeting of November 15, 2018 was cancelled for snow.

 

Wes McCracken was appointed Sgt at Arms

 

Secretary’s Report:  The Secretary’s report for the regular meeting from October 18, 2018, was read and approved.  Motion to accept report as read: 1st Della, 2nd Wes; motion passed unanimously.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Read and approved.  There were outstanding bills to M. Duda $26.58, K. Engel $59.34 and D. McCracken $222.35.  Motion to accept report as read and pay the outstanding bills: 1st Terry, 2nd Carl; motion passes unanimously.

 

Membership Report:  66 members

 

Old Business:  20 strong ride raised over $8000.00

Benefit for Sgt at Arms Donnie Thompson was held 11-3-18.

Gutters on the Post were cleaned on 10-28-18.

Motion to donate $500.00 to the Wahoo Drive Memorial to purchase part of the memorial with Post 36: 1st Dan, 2nd Art  Motion passed.

Rider’s Dues are to be paid at the December Meeting.  All Rider’s are responsible for insuring their Post Dues are paid.

 

New Business: Fallen, Not Forgotten presentation will be held at the Lockhaven Elks.  It is being presented by the VFW, VA Rep. Office.

Terry made a motion to donate $500.00 to the VA Benefit Center in Lockhaven.  2nd by Carl.  Motioned passed.

D.L. – The ALR website needs refunding after the first of the new year.  The cost is $29.00 for 1 year, $14.00 per year for 10 years.  Question was asked regarding the cost for 5 years.  This was tabled until more information could be obtained.

Flags need to be checked and replaced.  Motion to replace worn flags was 1st Terry and 2nd Dan.  Larry Smith will donate a POW/MIA and Marine Corps flag.

Committee: Fund raising- Spring gun raffle information will be obtained by Terry.  Bingo – Fire Company Hall will cost $220.00 plus $50.00 for Kitchen.  The Elks will be free.  Preferred day for Bingo is 3-2-19 back up is 3-23-19.  Motion to spend $1500.00 on Bingo Prizes (Vera Bradly, Pampered Chef and Coach) 1st Wes, 2nd Larry, carried unanimously.

A regular meeting of the American Legion Riders was held at the American Legion Post 36, Jersey Shore, PA, n October 18, 2018.  The meeting convened at 1900 with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call of officers with 6 officers and 13 members in attendance.

 

Secretary’s Report:  The Secretary’s report for the regular meeting from September 20, 2018, were read and approved.  Motion to accept reports as read: 1st Rose, 2nd Bill; motion passed unanimously.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Read and approved.  There were no outstanding bills.  Motion to accept report as read: 1st Rose, 2nd Terry; motion passes unanimously.

 

Membership Report:  66 members

 

Guest Jason Thompson informed us of Sgt At Arms, Donnie Thompson’s status.  Also provided information regarding two fund raising events 1. A Pool Tournament at the Moose and 2. A Poker Tournament in Williamsport.  Corporate sponsors will match the donations generated from the events.  Motion to facilitate the fund raising effort 1st Rose, 2nd Lisa motion passed unanimously.  Motion to donate $1000 to the effort was 1st Wes, 2nd Terry.  This money was to be donated to the pool tournament.  Passed unanimously.

 

A motion was made to donate $500 to Veteran Slugger Bower, he has a bad heart, 1st Terry, 2nd Joe.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

 

Old Business:  1. The 20 Strong ride was finalized: Breakfast at 0700-1100, $10 all you can eat.  0700 Glenn and Jeff start selling tickets.  1200 Kick stands up.  1600 Meal and Chinese Auction.

 

Carol Mann Patches are being prepared.  40 patches are being ordered.

 

 

New Business: 1. Lycoming County Vet Memorial Donation.  It will cost $4000 to buy the whole monument, Suggested ALR donate $500 if Post 36 is going to buy the whole monument.

2. Golf Tournament will be held May 20, 2019.

Committee: 1. Fund Raising: Bingo, Jodi presented a summary of the Bingo event.  ALR members will check on building use prices in the area, Sue-Elks, Terry-Fire Halls.

 

Activities:  1. Veteran Parade 11-10-18 in Hughesville.  Meet at 1100 parade at 1400.  SAL donated $100 for candy/flag fund.  2. Christmas Party.  Motion to have the party at the JS Elks on 1-5-2019. 1st Della, 2nd Jodi.  Further discussion at the November meeting.

 

Correspondence:  Thank you from Donald Ecler Family.  Thank You from Matt Mann.  He plans to reopen the Bar on 10-20-2018.

Old Business: Thank you for all those who participated in the fallen soldier run.  The Ladies Auxiliary at Muncy Legion did an excellent job serving the food.  A motion was made and passed to give send them a donation for $200.  Also thank you to the Coral for and Outstanding Job.

 

Vicki Hancock attended the meeting with an update for Heroes and Horses Ride on May 23rd.  She has plenty of donations for sides, desserts, and Chinese auction.  She also has volunteers to cover all 3 stops.Legion Riders will provide hamburgers, hot dogs and rolls.  Joe Bailey volunteered to cook the hamburgers and hot dogs. Setup for ride will start at 9 a.m.

Fundraising: The Golf Tournament was a great success and fun was had by all.  A special thanks to Mike and Jodi and all the contributors, participants, and volunteers. We also had another successful gun Raffle thank you to Terry Harrow and all the riders that sold tickets.

 

Activities and Fun Rides: July 5th at 3pm will be decorating the July 4th parade float at 5:15 we will head line up for parade. The Camel Parade is Saturday July 7th anyone wanting to participate meet at the Post at noon parade starts at 2 p.m.  Sunday July 8th a fun ride to Curtis museum in New York. Jodi will post info on facebook.

 

Scholarship:  All awards ceremonies went well.  Thank you to Wes and Della for their work with the Scholarship program, and all those who participated in choosing the recipients.

 

Merchandise: Nothing

 

New Business: State Convention will be held on Saturday July 14, 2018 in Harrisburg we are able to send 3 Delegates and Alternates.

 

A motion was made and passed to send Joan a tip for $100 for making the meat for the Abe Howard Ride.

 

July 29th  Riders will be leaving the Legion at 8 am to escort Sal to the Hollidayburg Home for Christmas in July.

New Officers will take office August 1st and be sworn in at Regular Legion Meeting Tuesday August 14th at 7 p.m.

 

For the Good of the Order: There will be a flag raising at the new truck stop in Avis on Wednesday June 23rd.

Old Business: The Fallen soldier run will end at the American Legion in Muncy.  The Ladies Auxiliary will provide all the sides and have beverages outside.  Joan is make pulled pork and Ham bbq and providing rolls for 100-150 people for the Fallen Soldier Run. The meal will be $10 per person will start at 3 pm and The Corral will playing. Registration starts is 10-11:30 set up will begin at 9am.

New Business:  Bill Engel informed Riders about Veteran Scott Barret ( a member of his band) who has Leukemia a motion was made approved to donate $500.00 to help with cost during his fight with cancer.

 

 

 

Central PA Food Bank is in Need of Volunteers.  The Home Association will help handing out the food you can sign up to help at the bar.

 

The SAL has donated $500.00 to our Fallen Soldier Run.

 

June 23rd is our Heros and Horses Benefit Ride.

 

For the Good of the Order: The 50/50 winner for this week meeting is Della McCracken and she won $29.00.

Scholarship:  Wes contacted all 3 schools about handing out Scholarship Apps.  May 3rd at 7pm we will go over apps for scholarship applicants.  Central Mountain awards not scheduled yet, South Williamsport is May 30th at 6:30 p.m. and Jerseys Shore is June 3rd at 5 p.m.  A motion was made and passed that Scholarships will be $750.00 this year

 

Merchandise: Nothing

 

New Business:  The office of Veterans Affairs in Lock Haven is running low on supplies  a motion was made and passed to donate the process from the Spaghetti Dinner to help with this need.

 

For the Good of the Order:  Region 4 meeting this Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Muncy Legion, and Movie at Roxie Sponsored by Heroes and Horses this Sunday at 4 p.m. The 50/50 winner for this weeks meeting is Ed Fabricki and he won $18.50.

MINUTES OF AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS


Meeting Date: January 18, 2018


A regular meeting of the American Legion Riders was held at the American Legion Post 36, Jersey Shore, PA on January 18, 2018. The meeting convened at 7:00pm with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call of officers, with 7 officers and 10 members in attendance.


Secretary’s Report: Read and Approved. Motion to accept report as read, 1st-Donnie, 2nd-Joe


Treasurer’s Report: Read and Approved, Motion to accept report as read, 1st Della, 2nd Steve


Outstanding Bills against the Chapter: Webb Weekly 180.00


Membership Report: Membership stands at 58


Old Business: Summit Meeting Calendar should be posted soon, SVBT looking for someone to host next year – they will still do calendar.


The Fallen soldier run will end at the American Legion in Muncy.  The Ladies Auxiliary will provide all the sides and have beverages outside.  Della said that Joan (who cooked for Christmas Party) was willing to make food for our rides.


A good time was had by all that attended Christmas Party


Committee Reports: If you have ideas for any for committees, please present at the monthly meeting.


Fundraising: Mike has 5 teams committed for Golf Tournament fundraiser which is Monday May 21, 2018 at the Clinton Country Club.  Anyone able to get door prizes let him know he needs to log everything in so he knows what he has before the tournament.


Motion was made and approved a $1,000.  for guns for next raffle.


Activities and Fun Rides: Spaghetti Dinner is scheduled for March 4th it was agreed to purchase 125 servings from Del Grosso.  Fun rides will be posted on Legion Riders board so keep an eye on the board.


Scholarship:  Will be contacting Guidance Counselors in month of February

New Business:  The Legion 36 Rides on Summit Calendar are May 20th Fallen Soldier Ride(which will end at Muncy Legion this year), June 23rd – Heroes and Horses Ride, and August 18th Legion 36 Veterans Run.
